How to Leave Suzuka Circuit After the F1 Race

100,000 fans. One main exit. Three strategies that actually work — and one that most people miss.

The Post-Race Problem

The 2026 Japanese Grand Prix brings roughly 100,000 fans to a circuit in Mie Prefecture with limited public transport. When the race ends, everyone heads for Shiroko Station at the same time — a single platform on a single line. Platform waits of 90+ minutes are common.

The good news: this is a solved problem if you know the alternatives.

Three Strategies That Work

Strategy 1 — The Kasado Walk

Instead of following the crowd to Shiroko, walk west toward West Gate and head to Kasado Station. Same Kintetsu line, same fare, but only a fraction of the crowd. Takes 15 min from West Gate (40+ from Main Gate). Most effective option on Sundays.

Strategy 2 — Wait 30-60 min

Stay at the circuit for 30-60 min after race end. Eat, shop, or walk the pit lane if open. Platform queues at Shiroko drop dramatically — often from 90 min to under 20 min. Free and requires no extra planning.

Strategy 3 — Suzuka Circuit Ino

The closest station to the circuit (15 min walk from Main Gate) is actually Suzuka Circuit Ino on the Ise Railway — not Shiroko. Far fewer people use it. Check the timetable before you leave (trains every 30 min). Transfer at Tsu for onward connections.

What to Do While You Wait

Waiting is the single best strategy — and it's more enjoyable than standing on a platform. Here is how to make the time count.

Official F1 merchandise shops

Shopping · ~30m

Suzuka stocks official F1 and Honda merchandise. Queues thin out significantly 30-60 min after race end — often the best time to buy without fighting crowds.

📍 Main Gate area, near pit building

Enjoy the post-race atmosphere

Rest · ~40m

Watch team celebrations, cool-down laps, and podium setup. Many grandstands stay open for 30-40 min post-race. Great way to let the first rush of crowds clear out.

📍 Your grandstand area

Food court and vendor stalls

Food · ~45m

Circuit food courts are significantly less crowded 20-30 min after race end. Good time for a proper meal before the journey home — you earned it.

📍 Main concourse near Hairpin and Main Straight areas

Pit lane walk (when open)

Entertainment · ~30m

Some race days allow post-race pit lane access to fans. Check the race day program — this is a structured 20-30 min experience and a natural delay before departure.

📍 Pit lane entrance, Main Gate side

Paddock area and car viewing

Entertainment · ~25m

The outer paddock and walkway areas often have F1 cars and equipment visible post-race. Worth a wander before heading to the exit — just 20-25 min of extra delay but meaningful crowd reduction.

Leaving by Car

  • Official circuit exits back up for 1-2 hours immediately after the race
  • Stay for the podium ceremony — by the time it ends, the first wave of traffic has cleared
  • If you parked at 西の宮池 or west-side lots, exit via Route 306 west to avoid the main bottleneck
  • Fueling up before race day avoids queues at nearby petrol stations after the race
